1. How will funds raised be used?
Participating in the Broadway Bound Theatre Festival greatly reduces our production costs, as many major budget lines -- i.e. space rental, insurance, consultants, ticketing, and front of house personnel - are covered. The remaining production budget covers, approximately $15000, covers: rehearsal space in NYC, salaries for actors and creative personnel, props/costume/set, travel & lodging to NYC for final rehearsals and performances, videography, and technology/personnel resources for The Page to Stage Experience.
Read Play Love, the producing entity, is a 501(c) organization, and all contributions are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.

2. What is an Off-Broadway Theatre Festival?
So many Broadway musicals got their start in a festival just like this one! An NYC Festival is an event that produces a series of shows in a revolving schedules. Festivals traditionally have a competitive selection process, and provide opportunities to premiere new works to a New York City audience for the first time.
It's a significant first step to Broadway, an invaluable opportunity to not only launch a professional production but make connections with the movers and shakers in NYC. BBTF in particular is known for its above-and-beyond support of its playwrights, with staff working hands-on with the writers to develop and improve their shows. and connect them with the best Directors and artistic teams available. From September 6-October 3, each of the shows will have 3-4 public performances. You can see the lineup of the shows here. Writers selected will see their new plays performed at least three times and will receive support from festival organizers, from promotion to critiques by a panel of playwrights and other theater professionals, as well as networking opportunities. - The New York Times
3. What is Theatre Row? Theatre Row is a building that houses several Off-Brodaway performance spaces and rehearsal studios. It is located on 42nd street, two blocks away from Times Square! And a bit of personal trivia from Marney Get this: Theatre Row is literally two blocks away from where I lived in New York City over 25 years ago. I can hardly believe that I'll be going back, under these phenomenal circumstances! |
4. Who are the individuals involved with the production?
We fully support Broadway Bound Theatre Festival's requirement to hire actors and creative team who are local to NYC, giving actors and artists paid work. Our creative team consists of a NYC-based Director, Music Director, Choreographer, Stage Manager, Lighting Designer, and Tech Operator, plus eight professional adult actors. We will be profiling each member of our creative team soon!
5. How was the Festival affected by COVID-19?
The Festival was originally scheduled for August 2020. With the health and safety for everyone as its highest priority, it will now play September 6-October 3, 2021. Off-Broadway is expected to have a new resurgence after New York City opens, giving newer shows some much-deserved visibility, and we are so excited to be part of that, being one of the very first Off-Broadway productions and THE first theatre festival to open live!
COVID safety measures will be in place for the performances.
6. What is The Page to Stage Experience?
Thanks to the wonders of modern technology and Read Play Love’s mission of empowering children through the arts, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for kids to be part of a musical being put on in a real Off-Broadway Theatre in New York...without even having to leave home!
Not only will they get incredible behind the scenes streaming access to a real New York Musical, but as part of The Page to Stage Experience, they will learn about every aspect of this process, and even have the opportunity to provide direct input themselves for several months leading up to production– and see it all spring to life in a real New York Musical,... right around the corner from Times Square!
Whether you are a patron of the arts looking to support a great show, or a parent with a child interested in theatre, you will be able to give a child the gift of having their contributions heard, every step of the way with rewrites, directing, stage managing, acting, lighting, music! Kids will learn about the entire process, get to communicate directly with the professional actors and entire creative team, see streamed rehearsals and events, and see their names in the official program as a keepsake forever!
